The main goal of anesthesia is to make surgical and diagnostic procedures tolerable without any permanent unfavorable impact on the patient.
An anesthesiologist assesses the health of the patient, the type of surgery and lets the patient know about the possibilities of anesthesia for the specific type of surgery.
There are procedures where a complete anesthesia is unavoidable, for example, surgery with laparoscopy. Other procedures might allow for a local anesthesia or conduction anesthesia where the anesthetic is introduced into the vertebral canal. Another often used method is sedation with analgesics; in this case, the patient only “slumbers” but does not feel the pain.
During all types of anesthesia the patient is connected to highly reliable monitoring devices that the physicians and nurses keep evaluating. The Anesthesiology Ward uses highly modern monitoring systems both at the operating rooms and at the rooms of the intensive care unit.
It is our established routine that each patient after surgery is monitored for at least and hour at the recovery room before he or she is transferred to the Inpatient Ward.
The highly professional team of anesthesiologists, led by the Head Physician, MUDr. Václava Vodičková, consists of physicians and nurses with high erudition and many years at clinical workplaces.
Full stress is always put on an individual approach towards each patient and face-to-face meetings at our clinic.
Patients are also informed in a written form about the preparations for anesthesia and then about the anesthesia itself. Before each surgery, we ask the patients to fill in an anesthesia form and ask them to sign their informed consent.
