Idiopathic Bowel Diseases: The most common chronic diseases of the digestive system

Crohn's disease

Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the digestive tract, also known as IBD - Idiopathic Bowel Disease. This disease most commonly affects the small and large intestine. It presents with a variety of symptoms, including abdominal pain, weight loss, diarrhea, fever and extraintestinal manifestations. Although it is not possible to cure the disease completely with medication or surgery, there are methods of treatment that include conventional drug therapy, biological therapy and surgical intervention.

Ulcerative colitis

Ulcerative colitis is also a chronic inflammatory condition of the digestive tract, falling under the IBD disease. It manifests with abdominal pain, bleeding on stool, painful urging to pass stool, and in some cases frequent diarrhea with admixture of blood. In some cases, the patient also suffers from extraintestinal manifestations.
