Rectoscopy: fast and targeted diagnosis of the colon
- Rectoscopy is an advanced method used to diagnose diseases of the terminal part of the colon. Using a flexible thin instrument (endoscope) that is inserted into the colon through the rectum, this procedure allows direct visual imaging of the mucosa. In addition, it can be used to take samples for further examination or to perform minor procedures:
- Treatment of mucosal bleeding.
- Removal of abnormal tissue.
- Shrinking a tumour.
- Closing or widening a narrowed section of bowel.
- Removal of foreign bodies.
Preparing for the examination
- We recommend that a saline enema is applied just before the examination. The enema is freely available in the pharmacy.
Dietary restrictions
- There are no food or drink restrictions during this preparation.
- Any restrictions on diet and physical activity will be communicated to you by your doctor immediately after the examination.
